About the ward
The interdisciplinary pediatric intensive care unit is a joint institution of the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine and the Department of Pediatric Surgery. In addition to seriously ill children with internal medical conditions, intensive care patients from the surgical disciplines (Pediatric Surgery, Traumatology, Neurosurgery, Urology, Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery) are treated here. This means that all clinical pictures of emergency and intensive care can be treated from premature babies to young adults. Acute and chronic diseases can be treated with state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic measures. Every year, about 400 patients are admitted.
The pediatric intensive care unit has a total of eight (maximum ten) fully equipped intensive care units, divided into two rooms, each with four treatment areas, and two lock rooms, which are equipped with a special air circulation system. In these lock rooms, especially children at risk for infections as well as children with infectious diseases can be treated in isolation.
For in-house emergencies, we can be reached around the clock via an "emergency telephone". As a result, the resuscitation and emergency team of the intensive care unit is available within a very short time. After consultation with us, it is possible to provide seriously ill or injured children with a special pediatric intensive care pickup service in a foreign clinic or at an emergency site. After the transportability has been established, we transport the children by means of a special baby / child NAW of the Frankfurt Fire Department or by means of rescue helicopters to our clinic. For a contact we are available 24 hours a day under the phone number.
Of course, you can visit your child on our ward. This is important for your child as well as for you in order to reduce fears, to develop a trusting relationship between you and us and to involve you as a parent of affected children at an early stage in the care of your child. In order to ensure a smooth operation on the ward, the following internal regulations must be observed.
